A message from the artist about the work:
"As some of you know, I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis- & over the last year and a half it got worse, which was a really big, hard pill to swallow. I recently underwent an autologous stem cell transplant which will hopefully stop this disease from getting worse. It was so unbelievably hard, and an experience I'm still reeling from...but I could still paint, which some days felt like a super power amidst so many hard and terrible things.
While I was in the hospital, miserably nauseous (chemo, am I right?) the only thing I ate were diced pineapples. So when I got home it was the first thing I asked for. That first week back I saw the pineapple on the counter next to the mountain of pills and knew I had to paint it.
I've made a lot of bad art the last few months, but to make has been such a comfort and a constant in such an uncertain time. I feel so lucky to get to make art, to be an artist. To be saved by art."
